destination pattern (9+1+area code) of
another comp any l ocati on, t he PBX
hands the call to the voip system. The
local voip strips off the 9 and directs
t he cal l t o t he I P ad d ress of t he r em ote
voip. The remote voip receives the call
and hands it to its PBX. The PBX then
completes the call to the PSTN.

Each
Inbound Phonebook
contains
two entries. The first entry (4 digits)
specifies how incoming calls from the
ot her v oi p si t es w i l l be han d l ed i f
they go out onto the local PSTN .
Essentially, all those calls come to the
receiving voip with a pattern
beginning w ith
1+area code. The local
voip removes those four digits
becau se t hey ar en t need ed w hen
dialing locally. The local voip
at t aches a “ 9” at t h e begi nni ng of the
number t o get an ou tsi d e l i ne. The
PBX then completes the call to the
PSTN .
The second Inbound Phonebook ent r y
(1 digit) is for receiving calls from
com p any em p l oy ees i n t he ot h er t w o
cities. The out-of-town employee
si mp l y di al s 3 d i gi ts. The fi r st of t h e
three digits is uniquely used at each
si t e an d so act s as a d est i nat i on
pat t ern (Boi se ext en si ons ar e 7xx,
Sant a Fe ext ensi ons 2xx, Fl agst af f
extensions 6xx).
The local voip sees the pattern in its
inbound phone book and notes the
first digit (here either 2, 5, or 6).
To make the match, this first digit,
three-digit number.
